rainy season almost over fishing good regardless

Report Date: October 20, 2014

October is usually the rainiest month here in Los Suenos Costa Rica, and one of the the slowest month tourism wise
this is when we play catch up on maintenance from all the hard hours we put on our boats and gear
we just finished putting fresh paint on the topsides of EPIC along with several other improvements and upgrades getting her ready for another kick ass season of chasing billfish.
we just started fishing after a couple weeks of work

we have had a decent sailfish bite going over the past few weeks most days boats are releasing 4-8 sailfish, the sailfish numbers should keep picking up over the next several month with it being in full swing for january through april

there are some marlin in the mix, a few blue marlin and occasional striped marlin around as well, these number should also improve over the next moth or so we often have a excellent run of marlin late novemeber and early december

dorado/ mahi mahi have begun their annual migration into our waters
and are pretty much every day occurrence, we are typically landing one or two of these tasty fish offshore while trolling for billfish, or if you are not interested in catching any billfish, you may choose stay closer in, 8-15 miles offshore to target the acrobatic fighter, and improve your chances of landing several of these in a day.
most are 10-30 lbs and provide excellent table fare for those looking to take home some meat. the mahi fishing should stay excellent through december

we have been doing very well bottom fishing out in the 350-400 ft range along the edge or the "corner" about 20-24 miles offshore
lots of good sized groupers 5 to 25 lbs along with smaller , rosefish, and tilefish which are all good eating, with the snowy groupers being one of my personal favorites

weather has been pretty good most days it does rain almost daily, but mostly late in the day and we can avoid most of it while trolling offshore, the rain should be getting less and less over the next few weeks as november transitions into high dry season
seas have been calm while not much wind only small smooth rollers spaced out
